How to Measure for Shutters

STANDARD WINDOW

  1. Measure the width of the window, from the outside of the window frame on the left to the outside of the window frame on the right.

Or from left side reveal to right side reveal.

  1. Measure the height of the window from the sill to the ceiling or top of the reveal.
  2. If you are looking for café shutters, please give the height of the horizontal divide or transom in your window, rather than the full height of the window, and indicate this is what you are looking for.

How to Measure for Shutters

BAY WINDOWS

This applies to all styles of bay windows, including Curved Bay, Box Bay, Multi Angle Bay etc:

  1. Start from the outer edge of the left-hand side, of the window frame. Measure from this point to the centre of the angle (you can see this is usually marked on the windowsill with a cut line).
  2. Measure from the centre point of the angle to the next angle or cut line on the sill. Repeat this process for all parts of the bay until you reach the outer edge of the right-hand frame.

The combined length of your sections is the overall width of the window.

  1. For the height, measure from the sill to the ceiling, or top of the reveal top/window frame.

If you can provide the angle of the window, then this would also be very helpful. If you are looking for café shutters, please give the height of the horizontal divide or transom in your window rather than the full height of the window and indicate this is what you are looking for.

SHAPED WINDOW

  1. Measure the widest part of the window from the outside of the window frame on the left, to the outside of the window frame on the right. Or from the left side reveal to right side reveal.  For a circle, that is the only dimension required.
  2. For the height, we require the tallest overall dimension from the sill to the ceiling, or top of the reveal/outside of top frame, wherever you feel you would like the shutters to finish. This applies to all angled, apex or arch top windows.

What Our Customers Say

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Matt Dolan

Fantastic service today at our office. 9 shutters fitted in an hour. Excellent prices and workmanship. Highly recommended. Alpine Hire.

A VERY HIGH STANDARD

Lyn Rostern

The service that I received from Window Shutters and the quality of the shutters that I had installed was to a very high standard. Jeff was very polite and gave me time to decide what type and Colour of shutter that I wanted. I didn’t feel pressured to make a quick decision on the type and colour and was left with a quote for the total price. It was then left to me to decide if I wanted to go ahead and order the shutters. The shutters themselves are of a very good quality and value for money. I would have no reservations with using Window Shutters in the future and would recommend them to family and friends.

REALLY HAPPY 10 OUT OF 10

Mr and Mrs Jenkinson

Really happy with choice of shutters I recently picked I took my time but after only 4 visits to your showroom (Sharon and Ruth both have patience of saints) I decided on perfect pleated shutters which look great in my conservatory and really help us keep a bit more heat in winter (saving on energy bills) and keeping the sun out in summer we can now enjoy our conservatory all year round, plus they're manufacturers too so their price was the cheapest out of 5 quotes, really happy 10 out of 10.
